The Junior League of the Emerald Coast (JLEC) is a hard working group of volunteers, friends and peers who take pride in our community and the support we provide. We are a diverse group of women who channel our energies in a positive way to enhance the quality of life in our community. Along with the serious work we do, we also have fun along the way. Membership in the JLEC offers an opportunity to build lasting friendships while gaining knowledge about our community. The Junior League also offers the opportunity to build leadership skills and be a part of an effective team. As a member of the Junior League of the Emerald Coast and thus the Association of Junior League International (AJLI), you would be part of a network of more than almost 196,000 women in 296 Junior Leagues in Canada, Great Britain, Mexico and the United States working toward a common goal of women building better communities.

How do I join?

Prospective members attend an informational social in the late summer where they learn about the benefits of membership in the JLEC and the upcoming Provisional year.

What are the criteria for joining the JLEC?

 A prospective member of the JLEC:

· Meets the age and residency requirements (reached her 21st birthday prior to the beginning of her Provisional year, and have resided in Okaloosa or Walton County for one year; the residency requirement may be waived by the JLEC Board of Directors)

· Has an interest in community service

· Has strong interest in voluntarism

What is a Provisional member of the Junior League?

The Provisional member is a woman in her first year of membership who participates in a year long education and developmental training class to orient themselves to the Junior League and its activities. After this training period the Provisional becomes an Active member of the organization and begins to fulfill membership requirements.

What is the time commitment?

A Provisional member of the JLEC must complete the Provisional Course which runs September through May.  A Provisional member is also encouraged to attend General Membership meetings (held the first Tuesday of each month, September-May) and any League activity in which she is interested. Every Active member serves on a committee during the League year. Each committee has a different time commitment, and some are busier during certain times of the year, which gives members flexibility in the amount of time they serve. Your time commitment depends on your schedule and family.
